Validate an IMEI number

The IMEI Validator checks whether a 15-digit IMEI number is structurally valid using the Luhn algorithm — the same checksum used for credit cards. Type an IMEI and instantly see whether it passes. It runs entirely in your browser, so nothing is sent anywhere.

What is an IMEI?

IMEI stands for International Mobile Equipment Identity — a unique 15-digit number that identifies a mobile phone or cellular device. You can usually find it by dialing *#06#, in your phone's settings, or printed under the battery or on the box. Networks use the IMEI to identify devices and can block stolen phones by it.

How validation works

The last digit of an IMEI is a check digit calculated with the Luhn algorithm from the first 14 digits. This validator applies that algorithm to confirm the number is internally consistent. A valid checksum means the number is well-formed and free of typos — though it doesn't tell you whether the device is genuine, active, or blocklisted.

How to use it

  1. Enter the 15-digit IMEI (spaces and dashes are ignored).
  2. See instantly whether it passes the Luhn check.

What the result means

ResultMeaning
ValidThe 15 digits form a correct checksum — likely a real IMEI format
InvalidA digit is wrong or mistyped — the checksum doesn't add up

What this can and can't tell you

A passing checksum confirms the number is formatted correctly. It does not confirm the device exists, who owns it, whether it's been reported stolen, or its warranty status — those require a lookup against carrier and manufacturer databases. Use this tool to catch typos and verify format before submitting an IMEI somewhere.

Find your IMEI

  • Dial *#06# on the phone's keypad.
  • Check Settings → About phone.
  • Look on the original box or under the battery.

Private and free

Frequently asked questions

How many digits is an IMEI?

Exactly 15 digits. The 15th is a check digit calculated with the Luhn algorithm.

Does a valid checksum mean the phone is genuine?

No. It only confirms the number is correctly formatted. Device status requires a carrier or manufacturer lookup.

How do I find my IMEI?

Dial *#06#, check Settings → About phone, or look on the box or under the battery.

Is it private?

Yes. Validation runs entirely in your browser and nothing is uploaded.
